Change or Declare Major and/or Minor

To change or declare your major and/or minor, complete the Degree Audit Application.  To find the major and minor codes, you will need to review the list that can be found at http://www.txstate.edu/academicaffairs/curric/undergradapc.pdf

Double majors –Students pursing two majors with one degree type (i.e. Bachelor of Science with majors in Biochemistry and Biology) are considered double majors.  If you wish to seek a double major and want your primary major to be within the College of Science, place the Science major under the 1st major on the degree audit application.  If your second major is outside of the College of Science, you must verify that you meet your second major’s admission requirements prior to declaring that major on the same form.

Dual Degree – Students pursuing two majors with two different degree types (i.e. Bachelor of Science with a major in Biochemistry and a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Mathematics) are considered dual degree seeking students.  To declare a dual degree, please fill out the first major and minor and the second major and minor areas on the degree audit application.  If the two degrees are from two different colleges, you will be required to declare your second degree with the other college’s Advising Center.  Please remember that some programs have admission requirements that you must  meet prior to declaring the dual degree.

Requesting a Degree Audit Report (DAR)
It is highly recommended that you request an official DAR your first semester at Texas State if you have declared a major in the College of Science.  To request an official DAR, please fill out the degree audit application or stop by the Advising Center in Centennial Hall, room 202.  DAR requests may take up to six weeks to process.

You can also request an unofficial DAR through CatsWeb, Student Services. Remember that this is an unofficial DAR and may not be accurate.  This audit should only be used to determine degree requirements in consultation with an Academic Advisor.

DAR Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Degree Audit?
A Degree Audit or DAR is the degree audit reporting system that Texas State uses.  It lists all courses required for your degree (i.e. general education core requirements, major, and minor requirements). An official DAR has been reviewed by an academic advisor and has been approved by the college dean or a dean’s representative.

How do I obtain my DAR?
You can go to the College of Science webpage, www.science.txstate.edu and print the Degree Audit Application, or you can stop by Centennial Hall, room 202 to pick up the form.  Turn the form into our office for processing.

How long will it take to receive my DAR?
It can take up to 6 weeks to receive a degree audit report, but typically it takes 3 weeks.

Once I apply for my DAR is it sent to my home or email address?
NO.  You will need to stop by the College of Science Advising Center to pick up a copy once you receive an email stating it is ready.

Can’t I just look at my DAR online?
Yes and No.  You can look at an unofficial degree audit at any time online.  It is found on CatsWEB under the “Student Services” menu.  The online version should never be used as an official document.

How important is it for me to speak with an advisor after I have my official DAR?
All students should meet with an academic advisor to review all remaining requirements for graduation.  It is important that students within their last 30 hours meet with an Academic Advisor to ensure that they are still on track for graduation.  There are a few requirements that students tend to miss on their DAR, but if not complete, they will prevent you from graduating.

If you have ANY questions about your degree audit please feel free to email your questions to scienceadvising@txstate.edu, or schedule an appointment with an Academic Advisor.
