College of Science Off-Campus Course Policy

Many students like to take courses away from Texas State for various reasons.  If you want to take a course off campus please follow the following guidelines:

  • BEFORE enrolling in courses at another institution you need to fill out an Off-Campus Course Request with the College of Science Advising Center.  They are also available in Centennial Hall, room 202.
  • After you submit the request, you will be notified by email as to whether or not you can complete the course off-campus.  This may take up to 10 working days.
  • Once you have permission to take a course off-campus make sure to have a transcript sent back to Texas State so that the work can be placed on your Texas State transcript.

Why Do You Need To Fill Out a Request?

  • By filling out a request you are ensuring that you are completing a course that is required for your degree, and will transfer in as the correct credit.  If you do not fill out the request, there is no guarantee that the course will transfer in correctly.
  • Academic advisors can also assess whether or not it is a good idea for you to take the course off campus.  Many times you need to complete the course at Texas State for GPA reasons.
  • Sometimes students are over their transfer limits, and if they complete a course off campus they will be required to take another course at Texas State to meet residency rules.

REMEMBER:  Taking a course off-campus without approval from our office first could prevent you from graduating on time!

If you have any questions about off campus course work, please feel free to contact the College of Science Advising Center at scienceadvising@txstate.edu or schedule an appointment.
