Academic Probation/Suspension

Probation

At the end of each fall and spring semesters, your Texas State GPA will be calculated. Transfer work is never used to determine academic probation or suspension.

If your undergraduate GPA falls below a 2.0, you will be placed on academic probation for the next semester. If you raise your Texas State GPA at the end of your initial probation semester, but not to at least a 2.0, you will be placed on continued academic probation. If you are on continued academic probation and you do not raise your GPA to at least a 2.0, you will be placed on academic suspension. If you raise your GPA to at least a 2.0, you will be removed from academic probation. If at any time you are on probation and your GPA drops again, you will be placed on academic suspension.

All undergraduate science students who are on probation will be required to meet with an academic advisor in the College of Science Undergraduate Advising Center. Please contact the Advising Center to schedule an appointment.

Partners for Academic Student Success (PASS)

While on academic probation, all undergraduate science students are required to participate in the PASS program. Please see the PASS Web page for more information about this program.

Suspension

Students who are on their first suspension will not be allowed to attend classes for one long semester. Students who are on their second suspension will not be allowed to attend classes for two calendar years. Students who are on their third or subsequent suspension will not be allowed to attend classes indefinitely.

Students may appeal their suspension by scheduling an appointment with the College of Science associate dean. Students who wish to appeal their suspension should contact the dean’s office at 512.245.2119 or the Science Advising Center at 512.245.1315 to find out the procedures.
