Major/Minor Declaration

To change or declare your major and/or minor, make an appointment with an advisor through the College of Science Undergraduate Advising Center.

Students must choose one degree type. Your choice of major will affect the types of degrees possible. Degree types include:

Bachelor of Arts - a type of degree. A minor is required and students must complete at least one additional science (from a specified list) in excess of their core requirements. Bachelor of Arts students must also demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language by successfully completing sophomore level foreign language classes. Finally, and additional literature is required in excess of the core requirements.

Bachelor of Science - a type of degree. A minor is required. Math and science tend to be emphasized.

Bachelor of Science in Technology - specific to Engineering Technology majors.

Double majors –Students pursing two majors with one degree type (i.e. bachelor of science with majors in biochemistry and biology) are considered double majors.  If you wish to seek a double major and want your primary major to be within the College of Science, place the science major under the first major on the degree audit application.  If your second major is outside of the College of Science, you must verify that you meet your second major’s admission requirements prior to declaring that major on the same form. A minor is not required.

Dual Degree – Students pursuing two majors with two different degree types (i.e. bachelor of science with a major in biochemistry and a bachelor of arts with a major in mathematics) are considered dual degree seeking students. If the two degrees are from two different colleges, you will be required to declare your second degree with the other college’s advising center.  Please remember that some programs have admission requirements that you must meet prior to declaring a dual degree. A minor is required.
